Sneak Peak For FLJSP Members

Members of the Friends of Lake James State Park get plenty of opportunities to demonstrate their appreciation for the park; there are volunteer work days for trail building and maintenance, chances to help out at the annual Catawba RiverFest celebration and other events, beautification projects and, of course, financial donations that allow FLJSP to support park activities and programs.

Mild temperatures and dry conditions during much of the month of December led to some rather unlikely sightings of the insect variety at Lake James State Park. Winter is a time of dormancy for butterflies in North Carolina, but on several warm and sunny days we recorded Eastern comma, cloudless sulphur and even a monarch flitting around the park.
